1. Zucknet

Mark programmed a messaging program at the age of 12. Mark’s father Edward is a dentist while mother, Karen is a psychiatrist. Mark developed a messaging program called Zucknet to communicate with his dad from his clinic. The tech whiz also used to develop games at teen age.

2. Music Streaming Platform

Mark invented music streaming platform when he was in high school. He attended Phillips Exeter Academy in New Hampshire. The music streaming platform built by Mark became immensely popular in short span of time. Even Microsoft and AOL was interested in buying. Mark refused to sell it to these companies.

3. The Facebook

Mark joined Harvard University in 2002. He was very popular as programmer during the college. He started Facebook along with his friends from a dorm room. The site expanded its network to other colleges in matter of few months. Soon, Mark dropped out of his sophomore year to focus on Facebook.

4. Priscilla Chan

Mark met Priscilla in a frat party in college. Mark missed his take-home midterm exam to go on a date with Priscilla. Mark married his long-term girlfriend in 2002. Priscilla is a pediatrician by profession.

5. The Social Network

There are hardly any movies based on startup entrepreneurs life. A movie based on Mark’s journey of Facebook was released in 2010. The movie earned eight academic awards. Mark however claims that, most of the details in the movie are incorrect.

6. IPO

Facebook went IPO on May 18, 2012. The company raised $16 billion and soon became the biggest tech IPO in the history. Alibaba broke the Facebook’s record last year.

7. Langauges

Mark likes to learn new languages. His Mandarin is very good. In one of his Q&A sessions at Facebook, he spoke in Mandarin language for 30 minutes. He is currently learning Chinese.

8. Salary

Mark takes a salary of $1 per year from Facebook. Selling stocks of Facebook has made him very rich. He reportedly spent $610,454 on private chartered jet for himself and his guests in 2014.

9. Car

The young billionaire drives a black Volkeswagen GTI manual transmission. He is not fond of fancy cars. Price of Volkeswagen GTI is hardly $30,451.

10. Private Gateway

Mark spent $100 million to purchase 750 acres of secluded land on Hawaiian island Kauai in 2014. Mark is planning to build a private gateway on the island.
