How to Configure a VPN Connection in Windows 8

 

VPN is a private network created using public network, VPNs typically require remote users of the network to be authenticated, and often secure data with encryption technologies to prevent disclosure of private information to unauthorized parties.VPNs serves any network functionality that is found on any network, such as sharing of data and access to network resources, printers, databases, websites, etc. A VPN user typically experiences the central network in a manner that is identical to being connected directly to the central network. VPN technology via the public Internet has replaced the need to requisition and maintain expensive dedicated leased-line telecommunication circuits once typical in wide-area network installations.

If you want to configure a VPN connection from a Windows 8 client computer do the following:
Confirm that the connection to the Internet is correctly configured on Windows 7 client computer.
  • You can try to browse the Internet
  • Ping a any public domain like google.com.
Click on Control Panel in Metro start.
Click on More Settings.
Open Network and Sharing center.
Click on Setup New connection or Network.
Select Connect to a workplace and then click Next.
Choose the connection method, it may be either Internet connection or dial directly connection. Click Next.
Type the Internet address and name of the connection, there are some optional setting below select according to your requirement.
Type the user name and password and then click Create or  Leave it blank, you can type later on while connecting.
Choose either to connect now or later(close).
Start connecting VPN  from Network connections.
If you want to change any other values in the VPN client, click the properties in the below connect window.
That’s all. You have successfully configured the VPN client in Windows 8.
