IBM unveils Brain-Like chip : TrueNorth chip
IBM’s chip simulates brain-like functions of neurons, synapses and much more. Each chip contains 1 million neurons and 256 millions synapses. The chip is capable of making super complex calculations like a super-computer and also shows off decision making and learning abilities of a human brain. It is a product of neuromorphic engineering which is a way to imitate the working of biological brain.
“It’s a supercomputer the size of postage stamp, the weight of a feather and runs on the power of a hearing-aid, It’s a genuinely radical innovation.” said Dharmendra Modha, chief scientist for intelligence computing at IBM Research.
IBM says it can handle and lead future advancements in memory, data transfer and communication integration, logic and sensor technology.
